Skill Level: Beginner.

Stitches: Chain, slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet.

Finished Measurements: 4.5” long x 3.25” wide (11.43 cm x 8.26 cm).

Tools: H/8-5.0 mm hook, tapestry needle, and scissors.

Materials: 31 yds (17 g, 0.6 oz, 28.25 m) of #4 worsted-weight yarn.

Suggested yarns: Hobby Lobby “I Love This Cotton,” Lily “Sugar’n Cream,” Hobby Lobby “Crafter’s Secret,” Bernat “Handicrafter Cotton.”

Gauge: 14 sts and 16 rows in 4” (10.16 cm) of single crochet.

Abbreviations: ch – chain, dc – double crochet (UK treble crochet), rnd – round, sc – single crochet (UK double crochet), sl st – slip stitch, st(s) – stitches.

Instructions

*1* Make slip knot, leaving 12-inch tail. Place slip knot on hook, ch 22.

*2* Bring beginning of chain around to meet with last chain made. Keeping chain untwisted and working under two strands of ch, sc in first ch. This will join the chain into a circle. Do not chain up. Sc in next ch and every ch around. Use beginning slip knot as indicator of where each rnd ends and the next rnd begins. 22 sts.
*3 thru 15* Sc in each sc around, until pouch is desired length. Make final st of Rnd 15 on same side of tube as beginning slip knot, in a direct, vertical line up from that knot. This will be a few sts over to the left (or to the right for left-handed crocheters) from the last st of the rnd. Sl st to finish Rnd 15. 22 sts.

*16* Ch3 (=dc), dc in every st around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-3 to join. 22 sts.

*17* Ch1 (does not count as st), sc in same st and every st around. Sl st in first sc to join. 22 sts.

*18* Repeat Rnd 17. Fasten off. 22 sts.

Seaming the Bottom of the Bag

Flatten bag with hands, making sure beginning slip knot is situated at the side edge of bag. Thread yarn tail into yarn needle and use whip stitch to sew tube together along bottom of bag. Weave in end.

Simple Knotted Drawstrings (Make 2 for each pouch.)

Ch 60. Cut yarn and pull tail out through last st. Pull sts at both ends of chain tightly and, leaving about 3”, snip tails. Lightly press bag flat with your hands. Starting from either side of Rnd 16 (dc round), weave first drawstring in and out around posts of sts, until both ends of drawstring come out on same side of bag. You may use a yarn needle, a hook, or your fingers. Tie ends together in a firm knot, being sure to include the actual chain, not just the tails.

Repeat with second drawstring, starting on opposite side of bag. Make sure you weave second drawstring behind and in front of the same posts as you did with first drawstring. Both ends of second drawstring will come out on opposite side of bag from first drawstring. Tie ends together in a firm knot. Add beads or buttons, if desired. Snip ends.
