CROCHET PATTERN: Sensible Hat (Tunisian CroHook)

Advertisements

This full written pattern, with lots of photos, is available
as a printable, pdf download in my Etsy Shop.

This super-warm, seamless hat is worked in a top-down spiral, using a double-ended Tunisian crochet hook, also known as a cro-hook. It features a convertible brim that can be flipped up, half-up, or fully down, and an adjustable drawstring.

Sizes in this pattern are for an adult woman – Small (20-in circ), Medium (22-in circ), and Large (24-in circ). Tunisian crochet fabric is not as stretchy as other types of crochet. Therefore, if in doubt about which size to choose, it’s best to go larger, rather than smaller, as adjustments can easily be made with the drawstring.

Skill Level. Detailed instructions are provided to enable advanced beginners and intermediate crocheters to complete this project.

Materials. 3.1 oz (88 g/161 yds/147 m) worsted weight (10-ply) yarn, approximately 80 yards of each of two colors.  The sample shown in the photo above uses Red Heart Super Saver Solids in the colors Aruba Sea and White. It is recommended to use two different colors, so as not to confuse the forward pass with the return pass.

Tools. K (6.5 mm) Tunisian double-ended hook, H (5.0 mm) standard crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors, and stitch markers (optional).
